Triangle Accordion Album By Lisa Harman

Furl this Post!

Supplies

- 1 piece of bazzill cardstock 12” long x 4” wide (30.1cm x 10.2cm)

- 2 pieces of chipboard or very thick cardstock for the covers (I found cutting a square 13m x 13cm sq then cutting diagonally through the centre works fine for the cover)

- 1 Pencil and Eraser for making faint lines

- Anything else you like to use to decorate and alter your triangle accordion album. Scraps are ideal for this altered item.

This is an interesting and different take on the standard rectangle or square accordion albums you can make.

As well as been different in shape they are also very simple to make.

Directions:

1. Putting everything else aside for now grab your piece of cardstock and have it patterned side down. Cut your self a piece 4” wide x 12” long

2. Measure across the width of the cardstock in 4 inch intervals, you will end up with 3 sections of squares. Do the same on the base then rule lines through the centre. Basically you have 3 boxes 4” x 4” sitting right next to each other.

Your piece of cardstock will look like this, (this is not to scale).

3. Once you have drawn these lines take your ruler and pencil or scorer and score in a diagonal manner across the boxes as shown below…rough cardstock side up

4. Now you have scored the cardstock in5 places. The two lines dividing the card into 3 boxes and then diagonally across the page. Fold along the scores so that you fold the cardstock rough side into each piece. The triangles will sit up.

5. Now that you have done this part you can set to altering your sections. I would suggest that you alter each triangle separately or if you do it in one piece make sure you score your paper or photo so they bend with the folds in your cardstock. If you don’t your creations can bubble and end up looking not so nice..

I would suggest that you don’t alter both sides as it isn’t big enough. In saying this though you don’t want the back looking tacky and full of brads and tapes from ribbon etc. If you have used things where they are showing through make another piece of card exactly the same and fold it the same way, but in reverse so you can stick it on the back.. or you could use a strip of pp and cover it all.

Once you have altered your insert of the album put that aside for now. We are now going to focus on the cover and back piece. It is ideal to leave one of the pieces non embellished so it can sit flat. The cover can be made lumpy bumpy.

6. Take one triangle and cover it with printed paper. Make your pp at least 1.5cm – 2cm wider than the piece of cardstock so you can wrap the paper around the cover piece. The inside will be covered over when the accordion insert is added so don’t worry about how it looks. Try to keep it clean and tidy looking with the folds etc.

With the base piece you need to add some ribbon so you can tie the album shut. I have added a piece to the side in this album, however in others I have had ribbon placed around the top. You can work the ribbon tie into your cover design like I have here.

7. Once you have done the base you can now do the cover. When altering this piece you can make it as lumpy bumpy with embellishments and other things as you want. Remember you will have the ribbon from the tie showing on the cover when done as well so incorporate this into your design.

8. Once you have the two covers done it is time to stick your album together. Bring the insert over and to the outer left triangle add liquid glue to this piece only. Adhere it to the cardstock triangle making sure you have it pretty well centred. You want both sides to match up equally when the cover and base are on.

9. For the cover repreat step 8 except use the outer most right triangle to glue down. Centre and hold in place to stick and set.

Once this is all glued in place you have your album. Tie the ribbon across the front or however you have placed it.

Your finished product will look something along these lines.
